Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Pizza Leader Exits After Pivot Into Chicken.

A chief executive of Domino's Pizza Group who suggested the United Kingdom might have reached maximum pizza demand while expanding the franchise into poultry items has been replaced after conflicts with its governing body.

Executive Shake-Up

Andrew Rennie is exiting after only 24 months in charge, and will be replaced on an acting basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Nicola Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a new leader.

Rennie, who worked for the company for over 20 years, had aimed to redirect Britain's leading pizza delivery company towards poultry-based products, stating earlier this month there was not “huge potential” left in the UK's pizza market. He said poultry was the quickest rising menu item in the globe.

Board Disagreements

Reports indicate that there was disagreement between the CEO and the directors over his focus and business vision, although Domino's announcement said he was leaving “as a joint decision”.

Recent Product Launch

In September, Domino's launched its Chick 'N' Dip offering – which Rennie referred to as a “significant new phase” for the organization – and is trialling it in 210 outlets in the north-west of England and Northern Ireland.

While the firm is still going to roll it out across its extensive network in 2026 as scheduled, it regards chicken products as an addition to its primary pizza operations.

Board Statement

Bull, the company chairman, said: “We are confident that there are a number of opportunities to enhance value and profitability in the main pizza segment. We are concentrating on selecting the suitable leader to oversee the systematic rollout of that expansion plan.”

Market Challenges

In the latest update, Domino's, which has millions of users in the British Isles, said transactions fell by one and a half percent in the latest quarter. In August, it cautioned that the quick-service industry had “become tougher” as it blamed reduced spending in the period before the government announcement and rising wage costs for disappointing revenue and a 15% drop in interim earnings.

Rival chains are also facing challenges. Pizza Hut announced the shutting of dozens of outlets a recently, after the business behind its UK venues faced financial collapse.

Health Initiatives

Responding to customer preferences towards better nutrition, the company has introduced lower-calorie products, such as its Thin & Crispy line of bakes below 400 kcals as well as vegan and allergy-friendly options. A large pepperoni pizza has 2,311 kcals. A large cheese and tomato pizza has over 2,100, while a personal has 909 calories.

Interim Leadership

Frampton has been with Domino's since 2021, and was formerly with the gaming group a well-known operator. It is thought that she prefers not to take on the top job long-term.

Frampton stated: “Our team has a several active development and efficiency programs that we will be dedicated to carrying out at pace.”

Frampton noted these included additional efforts on the organization's logistics network and new item creation, and its rewards program.

The pizza chain is also lacking a long-term chief financial officer until March 16, when a new appointee comes aboard from the beverage producer C&C Group. Until then, Snow serves as acting financial officer.
