Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
